One Year Anniversary

I can’t believe it, but we have made it one year! We officially opened in February 2010, and here it is, already February 2011! It has been such a wonderful year getting our business up and running. We met so many great people along the way and some fabulous dogs and babies too! It’s amazing how quickly time passes.
I can honestly say that there is no way I would be here today if it weren’t for the amazing support I have around me. First and foremost, my husband, Ted, has been there to cheer me up when I’m down on myself, and he always has a way of making me see what I need to do to keep moving forward. Next, my parents. I don’t think I could have a better pair than them. Dad helps me with the business side and mom helps me with just about everything else! Of course, Abby and my sister, Jenny, are my best people and dog models. I am always able to try out new lighting techniques and props with them. Plus, Jenny will assist me with shoots when I need her. Then there is my brother, Richard. Richard was my “intern” aka work slave last summer. He has such innovative and interesting ideas. He helped me grow my business over the summer and implement new marketing strategies that I continue to use today. And, then I have my wonderful friends and colleagues that continue to provide lasting support to me and my business.
In the beginning, I started focused on what everyone else was doing in their photography businesses, but I quickly realized that I can’t try to be someone else. I have to be me, and I have to showcase my own style. Once, I figured that out, I feel like my work truly progressed and evolved into something that is all mine. I have developed my own style that is contemporary and fresh with a vintage twist. I’m sure a lot of you already know that I have issues buying antiques… I still have this problem but it fits in with the way I photograph. So, sorry Ted, I am always going to stalk Craigslist for new props!
As a mini celebration to our one year anniversary, Abby helped me test out a new background, and she was such a sweet pup posing with peacock feathers in her hair! Thank you to everyone out there who has made Kim Hartz Photography what it is today. It will always be our goal to capture the personalities of those we photograph, and I know we will be able to continue making this goal a reality for years to come thanks to all of you!
